Body language is a universal language. We all use body signs for non-verbal communication with others. Ability of understanding body language is one of the best tools you can possess in order to understand others.

Understanding body language is not a difficult task. When you know the basics of body language, it is easy to understand what the other person doesn't say in words. Body language is a form of communication used by every one of us for communication. This method of communication uses gestures and body actions to express instead of using words and sounds. Body language is categorized as one of the paralanguages.

Understanding body language helps people in many professions. Usually, the legal officers are given a good training in understanding body language as it is useful when interrogating a suspect or talking to a witness. By using the other person’s body language, the officer can easily determine whether the person is telling the truth. Same as in the above example, there are a number of professions that uses body language for verification and validation of what the person says.

Understanding body language is quite essential when it comes to the education domain. Especially with primary level kids, it is vital to have an understanding in body language. Usually, kids in this age are not capable of fully expressing their feelings using words. Therefore, educators should have a basic understanding of body language in order to fully understand what the kids feel.

When it comes to giving commands or conveying messages, understanding body language plays a key role. If the people who work or interact with you also have an understanding of body language, then it is quite easy for you to communicate with them. Additionally, right combination of body language and verbal communication can produce effective communication.

Understanding body language usually helps the person to portray her / his personality. Have you seen there are people in your office that have never talked to you but you still know whether they have positive or negative personalities? This is due to the fact that your personality is portrayed by the body gestures that you show. This is where understanding body language becomes important. You can say what you want to say to the rest of the co-workers without using a single word. In addition, the ability of understanding body language helps you to avoid negative expressions, in case if you do it without knowledge.
